San Francisco Bay Area Wedding Photographer: April & Michael’s Backyard Wedding
I knew I was going to love April and Michael from the first e-mail I got from them, explaining that they weren’t planning a huge fancy wedding, but rather a small, intimate backyard wedding; in their words, “just good people, good food and wine, and fun.” Meeting them for the first time, I could tell that Michael was one of the kindest people you could ever hope to meet, and April just radiated warmth, joy, and fun.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many tears at a wedding. Both of them cried almost all the way through the ceremony, and I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a single dry eye there, mine included. They are two people who feel incredibly lucky to have found each other, and it shows in every smile, word, and look.
One of the things that struck me most about the wedding was their toasts. As they said their thank-you’s, they mentioned each and every guest by name with an introduction and an anecdote for each. It would be easy for something like that to get tedious, but that definitely wasn’t the case here. It’s obvious that they are two people who have made their friends and family a huge priority, and have been rewarded with an incredibly rich life because of it. Everyone who gave a toast about the two of them talked about how warm, welcoming, and open Michael & April’s home is, and how lucky they felt to know them. It was easy to see why, and I found myself feeling incredibly lucky to have met them and witnessed their marriage.
It’s nights like this that make me love what I do so much, and I drove home after their wedding filled with a boundless sense of optimism for the future and a renewed sense of faith in humanity. Just glancing at a newspaper these days make it so easy to forget that for each dark, ugly thing that happens it the world there is also something beautiful and life affirming happening somewhere in a small backyard tucked away out of sight and off the front page. And I’m so grateful to April & Michael for reminding me of that.
